Two New Outdoor Films Drop This Week: RGB and White Cap

by Gene Han

Two films dropped this week that remind us what outdoor cinema looks like when it's not trying to sell you gear or lifestyle fantasies. RGB by Brandon Semenuk and ö Clever elevates mountain biking beyond the usual hero-shot formula, as reported by Yüth. White Cap, co-directed by photographer Corban Campbell and George Trimm, documents maritime pursuits that teeter between sublime and disaster, according to The Surfer's Journal.

RGB ditches the typical mountain bike film playbook — no dubstep soundtracks or energy drink sponsorship walls. Instead, Semenuk and the ö Clever team built the film around its title concept: red rocks that look like Mars, green forests straight out of Star Wars, blue foggy mornings. The sound design lets you hear dirt exploding off berms and Semenuk's tire tapping trees as he flies by. When Yuth asked the ö Clever team about filming massive stunts, they admitted nerves about one particular step down: "We were hours from the nearest hospital and it was huge."

White Cap follows Campbell — TSJ contributor, photographer, and Ventura coffee shop owner — as he navigates his new life as a boat owner. The film captures what The Surfer's Journal calls "hectic, sublime, and sometimes hilarious" open ocean pursuits. Campbell shapes his own step-up boards, spears sea hogs, and apparently makes excellent coffee when he's not threading heavy water barrels or nearly sinking boats.

Both films share something rare in outdoor media: they document actual experience rather than manufactured adventure. No finding yourself narratives. No sponsored gear walls. Just people doing things they love with cameras that know when to get close and when to step back.

RGB showcases Semenuk's calculated approach to massive features — he doesn't hit anything unless he knows he'll stomp it. White Cap reveals Campbell's eye for both photography and disaster-adjacent adventure. Neither film needs to convince you that outdoor sports are cool or life-changing.

These releases arrive as outdoor film festivals increasingly program content that feels more like extended Instagram posts than actual storytelling. RGB and White Cap prove you can make compelling outdoor cinema without treating your audience like potential customers for whatever gear appears on screen.
